The main ingredient in our line of Tea Tree Oil Acne Products is well, in the name, Tea Tree Oil. New interest in anti-viral products has caused a surge in traffic to our website and questions about Tea Tree Oil and it's anti-viral properties so we created this post to address those questions.
UPDATE: We are finally back in stock! We know many of you have been waiting for our popular Tea Tree Oil Acne Face Wash and Tea Tree Oil Acne Cream which are now finally taking orders again.
The whole idea behind Keeva Organics is that ingredients DO matter...as do results. Women shouldn't have to suffer day in and day out with the same painful acne scars or even worse, feeling new pimples creep their way up and block their natural beauty.
Part of what has made Keeva's acne treatment creams garner worldwide praise from customers is the premium, high quality tea tree oil used as a central, natural disinfectant that powerfully yet gently tackles whiteheads, blackheads, pimples and other blemishes.
Our Tea Tree Oil is carefully obtained by a thorough and extensive steam distillation of the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia plant.
So is tea tree oil an anti-viral too? Tea tree oil has antiviral properties that have proven to be effective against common pathogens. A 2001 study found that a combination of tea tree oil and eucalyptus oil worked effectively against viruses and a 2013 study found that tea tree oil could prevent the spread of influenza. While tests have not yet been conducted on tea tree oil’s effectiveness against this new virus, it’s certainly a possibility.
That being said we do not recommend using our tea tree oil products as hand sanitizers. Hand sanitizers are best used when you don't have access to tried and true hand washing and it's best to use hand sanitizers with more that 60% alcohol(we do not use 60% alcohol). And even hand sanitizers containing 60% alcohol can’t remove all types of germs. Studies have found that hand washing is more effective than hand sanitizers.
Tea tree oil IS an effective antimicrobial. It has been used for centuries to clean wounds, kill acne causing bacteria and prevent infections.
Conclusion: While we don't recommend using our products as a hand sanitizer, tea tree oil does help in the fight against viruses, bacteria and other harmful "unwanted guests" on your skin all while you keep acne free.
