Essential oils have natural healing abilities which cool, soothe and reduce inflammation and dryness in your scalp, in addition to preventing infections. Keep in mind, however, that essential oils are highly concentrated and need to be diluted with a carrier oil such as sweet almond, avocado, olive or jojoba oil before use. The right career oil depends on the natural oil you use.

Here are some of the most potent essential oils to get relief from a damaged scalp:

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender carries a universally pleasing scent and effectively moisturizes your scalp while cleansing and toning pores. Lavender shares similar properties with lemongrass essential oil and produces a balancing effect for underactive oil glands that are directly responsible for a dry scalp.

Many beauticians advise adding lavender essential oil to shampoos or hot oil treatments. For a less concentrated effect, though, infuse your very own garden lavender with olive oil for a few weeks. You can also use lavender-infused olive oil combined with a hot oil treatment, which contains a few drops of lavender essential oil.

Lemon Essential Oil

Find permanent relief from an itchy scalp with lemon essential oil, which cleanses the scalp. In addition, it also unclogs hair follicles which harbor the germs responsible for itchiness. An added bonus of using this essential oil is the potent antifungal, antiseptic and antibacterial properties that disinfect your scalp and protect it from infection.

Add two drops of lemon essential oil to 2 teaspoons of coconut oil. Add peppermint essential oil to make the treatment more effective. Leave it on for 40 minutes and rinse well with warm water.

Tea Tree Essential Oil

Scalp psoriasis is an inflammatory scalp condition that displays symptoms such as itching, inflammation and blood loss. Some areas of the scalp might even see thickened areas accompanied by silvery scales.

Tea tree oil is one of the best essential oils to combat psoriasis as it helps retain your scalp’s natural moisture and essential nutrients.

Add a few drops of tea tree oil to a tiny bowl. Dab a small cotton ball in the bowl and apply directly to the affected areas of your scalp. If the essential oil proves to be a little harsh for your skin, mix it with a little natural oil such as coconut. Leave it on overnight and wash off with a natural shampoo and conditioner.  The best is to use a TTO shampoo and conditioner that uses 100% pure TTO. You can find one at our store.

An oily scalp can be a nuisance to deal with and somewhat embarrassing for some especially when it’s humid and you’re under the open sky or under bright lights.

Tea tree oil actually happens to be a very effective remedy to deal with an oily scalp. Just add a few drops in you everyday shampoo and wash away. Alternatively, you could also massage your scalp with 5-10 drops of tea tree essential oil.

Rosemary Essential Oil

This essential oil boasts anti-inflammatory properties that are perfect for reducing redness and/or inflammation on your scalp. In addition, it has anti-fungal properties that help protect your scalp from fungi or bacteria. An added bonus is improved scalp circulation which soothes itchiness.

Add three drops of rosemary oil to a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil and mix well. Apply gently to the scalp and cover it with a warm towel. Wait 40 minutes and rinse thoroughly. Wrap a soft towel around your head.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil

This essential oil shares a few of its properties with peppermint essential oil and gives you a soothing and cooling effect on the scalp. In addition, its antibacterial properties effectively kill off fungus and other germs responsible for causing itchiness.

Massage eucalyptus oil on your scalp to promote overall scalp health and promote circulation.

You’re well on your way to a healthy scalp! Just to reiterate, take special care when using essential oils as they can be highly concentrated and need to be mixed with carrier oils. A few drops of essential oil is all you need.
