Natural Ways to Combat Dry Hair

dry and damaged hair treatment

It’s that time of year again, winter is here and that means dry air is waiting to wreak havoc on your hair from now until spring. However, sometimes the conditioner you use can actually do more harm than good when it comes to treating your dry and frayed hair. So what to do? Well, there are some great DIY recipes for hair conditioner to try at home and avoid causing more damage to your already delicate winter hair.

1. Honey

Honey is something of a miracle food. It is often used to treat virtually every ailment you can think of, and it works, not surprisingly, for dry hair too. You’ll want to be careful with how much you use because it can make your hair overly oily since you’ll also want to mix in some olive oil. But the combination is great for dry hair and smells great.

2. Mayo and Yogurt

This one sounds gross, but the calcium, protein, and fat in this concoction are great for your hair. You’ll want to lather this one on your hair and then let it sit for about 30 minutes before showering it out. It’s a little bit gross but it’s a great option for taking on dry hair.

3. Coconut Oil

This is another substance that shows up all the time as options for a lot of cosmetic issues. Coconut oil is highly slick and will give your hair a sleek shine as well as make it smell amazing while delivering some much needed vitamins to the follicles

4. Avocado

Everyone knows avocado make great snacks, great breakfast items, great face masks, but they also make great hair conditioners. The amino acids in avocado are something your dry hair craves and it’s great as a moisturizer. This is another one you’ll want to sit in your hair and rinse out, it might not be the best smell, but the effects on your hair are totally worth it.

5. Shea Butter

Shea butter provides a similar sheen power as the coconut oil and, depending on the kind you get, can make your hair smell great too (at least better than mayo and yogurt). This is one you’ll want to massage into your head to get the full effect of the vitamin E and then rinse out for sleek, shiny, and healthy hair.
