No matter what kind of breakouts you have on your skin, it’s definitely unwanted. Even if you are suffering from mild acne breakouts, your objectives will always be to plug them out. Once you understand the kind of breakout you are suffering from, you can easily start an over-the-counter prescription or home remedy treatments that suit your condition.

What’s the problem with most breakouts?
There are many pores on your skin surface, each of these pores has its own route where sebum (oil) passes through from oil glands to the surface of your skin. When there is a normal production of this oil from your body, this oil is able to keep your body protected, smooth, and hydrated. However, when they are produced more than needed – abnormally – then things can go wrong from there. This excess oil production is responsible for the different breakouts we know today.
When the excess oil is present on the skin surface in this way, there is no way to store, which leads to blockage of the pores. To add salt to the wound, bacteria on the skin surface leading to more blockages produce dead skin cells. As this happens, the inside of the pores is filled up. This is when you experience acne scars, pimples, blackheads, and backne.
Acne Scars:
Inflamed skin blemishes that are filled with dead skin cells, bacteria, and excess oil can cause acne scars. As this occurs, the pore on the skin swells and this ultimately leads to a break in the follicle walls.
Follicle walls:
The follicle is any of the holes of the skin where the hairs grow out. When there is a break in the follicle wall, a lesion occurs on the surface of the skin. If it is mild, it can easily be treated and cured quickly. However, if there is a big tear on the wall of the skin, dead skin cells and bacteria spreads spread out causing more infection and acne scars. This leads to freckles on the face usually called acne scars. Although the skin will attempt to repair the lesions by building new collagen fibres, this will not be as the original skin as it was.
Pimples:
These are the mildest form of acne breakout. They are usually breakouts on the surface of the skin that are slightly white to red bumps on the skin filled with oil and fluid.
- It occurs when a plugged pore ruptures and white fluids push to the surface of the skin.
- Bacterial infections and growth also cause this condition to worsen.
Fortunately, they are the easiest acne to treat. Although studies have shown that over the counter acne products that contain Benzoyl Peroxide are okay to treat this condition, they are often with some side effects.
The best way of treating pimples with little to no side effects is to use:
- Essential oils like argan oil or tea tree oil or coconut oil or a mixture of them.
- You can also use other homemade remedies from honey, lemon juice, turmeric or mixture of these ingredients.
When dead skin cells and oil that is plugging the pores make their way to the opening of the pores, then the blackheads forms. When air touches the oil and the dead skin cells that are on the pore opening, they are oxidized – when this happens, they become a blackened as seen on the chin, nose, and forehead.
Generally, blackheads are not the result of hygiene or dirt and bacteria do not cause them. This is why they don’t respond to topical treatments such as Benzoyl Peroxide. This is why one of the most effective ways of treating them is with natural remedies such as the use of essential oils for unplugging the pores and exfoliating dead skin cells.
Bacne:
Bacne is one of the most difficult forms of acne to treat because of its location and causes. Like facial acne, bacteria and dead skin cells that plug the pores of the skin often cause it.
Usually, it is difficult to treat because the pimples are much deeper and thicker than those that occur on the face. It often causes permanent scarring and results in some people unable to wear certain clothes.
For example, women can hide their facial acne by wearing make-up when they are going out. However, the same thing cannot be said of bacne. Women can just forget about wearing those strapless dresses or the tank top if their shoulder and back are filled with acne.
Do’s and Don’ts:
Do’s:
- Stay out of the sun. If you are suffering from any of these conditions, especially acne scars, staying out of the sun will probably help you. If you stay long under the sun, the sun will blacken your acne scars and that will make them more prominent.
- Reduce swelling of your acne with ice by applying a cube on the problem area for a couple of minutes. It’s certain to work for everyone, but there is no harm in trying. Moreover, don’t let that ice stay too long on your face so that you don’t irritate the skin.
Don’ts:
- Pick at your acne. Sometimes your whitehead or pimple may beckon you to pick. You have to resist the urge to comply. When you pick your acne, it takes longer to heal. Your fingers contain germs and bacteria at any point, touching your face with them will cause more problems for you.
- Irritate inflamed skin. Over scrubbing and scratching can cause more breakouts for you. Instead of scrubbing, apply a sulphur-based cream such as those containing Benzoyl Peroxide can help reduce blemishes.
- Give up on your acne. Some techniques – without surgery or over the counter sort of drugs – may help with your acne. Also consulting a dermatologist may bring better result.
